BRODIE SMITH’S VISIT TO IIM Raipur
In the past four months many guests have come to our campus of IIM Raipur. But today the campus was even more buzzed with eagerness for a special person. A sports person for the first time in IIM Raipur - Mr. Brodie Smith – a player of the game of Ultimate. Ultimate is a team sport played with Frisbee. The aim is to score points by passing the disc similar to basketball and scoring points akin to rugby or American football.
Mr.
Brodie was in India to promote the sport of Ultimate and it was indeed awe
inspiring to hear to his life story. The bottom-line of the interaction with
him was
“Do
the work you LOVE to do”
The clarity of his
thought process was one to learn from. He gave his input of why doing things
which you are passionate about is so very important in the life. Its not always
monetary value that decides your success but how you enjoy doing everything you
do is important. He then shared his view on how athletics has helped him in
lead a disciplined life.
Followed by the
interaction we were taught the basics of the sport. He begun with explaining
the backhand & forehand throwing of frisbee. He then trained us in catching
of the frisbee. Then he taught us about some basic rules of playing the game.
Followed by which we had a game of ultimate with students in four teams. As Alchemist says we were blessed with the Beginner's luck in the game of ultimate, and we enjoyed the game to the best.
Post the game Brodie
showcased some of his tricks to the students. One involved throwing the Frisbee
in a circular window in the third floor which he did in ease. All that began
well ended well with some photographic memories. A day with a good sportsman
and most importantly an humble human being.

Happy Diwali
HAPPY DIWALI TO ALL
As I sit down today in the early hours of the festival of lights
in my living room of my home, listening to the chirps of bird outside the
window, I could see the morning rays of sunlight fall into my silent room forming
pattern by its own reflection in the windows and mirrors. Akin to the beautiful
pattern formed in the room by the sun, my reflection of the past four months of
my life brought me back the beautiful memories of my life at a new home away
from my home.
New place, new language, new food, new climate, new culture, new
people, and of course a new learning – in short it was a newer way of life –
life the IIM way. Birthday celebrations and rigid assignment deadlines made my time
in campus more action filled and enjoyable. Discussions and shuttle made the
nights more thoroughly enjoying experience. The journey so far had been made
memorable by many persons and many small moments of joy and happiness.
Hoping for more such moments, as I know it is only a small portion that is complete and the major portion of enjoyment is in store for us in the coming days.
Happy Diwali to all!!!
